Ricards Lodge is a secondary school in Wimbeldon, London. We are delighted to be linked with them and between us we have established three main areas where they can focus their fund raising efforts.
Assisting the Kindergarten teacher’s salary. The kindergarten teacher has set up a kindergarten because she knows that early learning is vital for a young persons development, from the learning information to interacting and learning to be away from their parents and with heir fellow students. Whilst the cost is small many of the student’s parents cannot afford this, yet send their children regardless. The Kindergarten teacher is not allowed to refuse them entry and so has to teach them and feed them. It is not possible to pay for the children who cannot afford it, because suddenly everyone will claim poverty, so instead Ricards Lodge have agreed to pay for each child to attend. This is a fantastic project and one we hope other schools will copy.
Knowing that many families cannot afford secondary schools and sometimes have to prioritise their spending and may choose to send boys rather than girls. Richards Lodge have agreed to fund 3 girls from Waangwaray Primary School to attend 4 YEARS of schooling at the Kwaraa Secondary School. The Lodge will pay for their fees, clothes, books etc for the 4 years. If those students then go on to further education, we hope that Ricards Lodge will follow them. This is a fabulous way of linking people together and we will encourage students to write to their sponsored student who will be encouraged to write back. The girls will be selected purely on marks and the 3 with the best marks will get this award.
Fighting poverty at the grass roots level requires not only knowledge but also a loan. Ricards Lodge have agreed to sponsor the Sinai Pig Project. This project follows the fortunes of the Sinai Community groups who have decided to invest in setting up a small pig breeding programme. we will help the community groups establish a base line of knowledge and have provided them with a loan for 18 months, which must be repaid with 10% interest. We will be following the progress of this project with great interest.
