Smallholder Farmer Training
We provide training to local farmers to enhance their existing knowledge as they seek to improve their income security through conservation and organic farming practices and improved use of seeds. We explore with them how they can reduce their post harvest losses and provide training on pest control and entry to the supply chain.
So far we have supported 538 farmers across 8 communities.

CASOs
Our Community Agricultural Support Officers (CASOs) provide training, guidance and where needed act as first line veterinary support to help farms improve their income security by enhancing their existing knowledge. They live in the communities they serve and are on hand to support all farmers and primary schools with any aspect of their farming activities.
On average the CASOs attend 27 call-outs a month on livestock alone.

Edible Garden Training
We provide community members with training to support them use land around their homes for vegetable production. The produce can enhance their diet, reduce cost of buying food and even generate an income. In addition we provide training on the links between diet and well-being. Participants then share their knowledge within the community.
So far we have 23 peer trainers and 74 gardens across 7 communities.

Street Business School
This training programme builds the knowledge and skills of participants, enabling them to improve and diversify their incomes. The programme is modelled on the curriculum from ‘Street Business School’, a Ugandan/US NGO. Two of the MCDO team are qualified SBS Trainers.

17 women graduated from their training in March 2021
12 Youth graduated from their training in January 2022

Community Based Savings Groups
The ability for community members to access loans for their business is vital for their economic growth. Access to such funds from banks is challenging with little or no collateral. Communities have established saving groups from which loans can be supplied. We provide the groups with training.
So far 271 people are in such groups & over £7,000 has been loaned out.

Value Addition Training
The majority of farmers and small businesses are primary producers. A farmer will sell their crops in their natural state. We provide training to community members to assist them to create a product from primary goods which they can then sell at a higher price. This might be soap, dried vegetables or chilli sauce.
So far we have provided value addition training to 17 community members.
