When the community comes together to set up a programme to ensure students get fed; when a community contributes building materials and labour; when a community works together to address the needs of their girls..... you know you have a community dedicated to the education of their children. One of their top priorities was to make sure all the children were being fed well at school.

Today we visited the new renovated kitchen with it’s new fuel efficient and safe stoves.

Previously the school cook provided meals for 266 children on a 3 stone fire everyday (except during the rainy season as it wasn’t possible) and there was no place to store the wood. If the wood was slightly wet there was a lot of smoke and if the stones wobbled it could mean disaster.

The new kitchen with a fuel efficient and safe stove means less smoke, less wood need, less risk of the pot falling over, less deforestation and meals through the rainy season. We think it’s great and the children do to! The school are already seeing the results, less absences and we are certain the grades will follow.
