Waangwaray Primary School no longer need us....

The Waangwaray Community, on the outskirts of Babati, was the first community LTT formed a partnership with back in 2006, before we were even registered as a charity. The local authorities had classified Waangwaray Primary School as the worst school in Babati and the teachers recognised the need to change. Over the years LTT and the community have worked together to improve their school. We have renovated 7 classrooms, built 4 more, added furniture and books, provided computers and installed a satellite dish for internet access. We drilled for water, added water tanks, built new toilets with hand washing facilities. We built a farm store and established a profitable 'school income generation programme' in the form of a market garden and various livestock projects. We built a new kitchen with fuel-efficient stoves and facilitated a successful community funded school meals programme. We supported a very successful saving and loans programme with teachers and a community group. Finally, we have sponsored eight young people with school scholarships for secondary and further education.

LTT is delighted that the school leadership has demonstrated the ability to maintain their school to the point that LTT's partnership is no longer needed. Many supporters and volunteers have contributed to this landmark event and we are grateful to everyone. The lessons we have learnt while working with Waangwaray have been to the benefit of subsequent school development programmes and we are of course still learning.
